Sheqerpare & Baklava

Inherited from centuries of Ottoman influence, Albanian sweets are rich, syrupy, and irresistible. Sheqerpare are soft semolina cookies soaked in sugar syrup. Baklava layers filo pastry with crushed walnuts and honey. Both are sold by weight at pastry shops (ëmbëltore) across the country, especially in Berat and Gjirokastër.
