Sachertorte

Sachertorte

Vienna’s most famous cake and one of the world’s great chocolate creations — two dense layers of dark chocolate sponge separated by a thin spread of apricot jam, coated in a glossy dark chocolate glaze. Created in 1832 by pastry chef Franz Sacher for Prince Metternich. The original is served at Hotel Sacher in Vienna alongside a dollop of unsweetened whipped cream. A famous 7-year legal dispute between Hotel Sacher and Café Demel over which holds the ‘original’ recipe is part of Viennese legend.
