Family Islands Regatta (George Town, Exuma)

The Bahamas' most beloved sailing tradition, held every April in George Town, Exuma since 1954. Traditional Bahamian sloop boats — hand-built wooden sailing vessels with no engines — race across Elizabeth Harbour in a competition that is as much a cultural reunion as a sporting event. Sailors from across the Out Islands converge on Exuma for a week of racing, Junkanoo performances, rake 'n' scrape music, and Bahamian food. The Family Islands Regatta is the authentic heart of Out Island Bahamian culture.
