The Czech traditional pre-Lent carnival, celebrated in villages and towns across Bohemia and Moravia in February. Masked processions (maškarní průvod) of colourfully costumed characters — bears, devils, the death figure, the white mare — parade through villages accompanied by folk music, dancing, and feasting. The Prague district of Žižkov hosts one of the most vibrant urban Masopust celebrations, drawing thousands to its bohemian streets.
