Venice Carnival (Carnevale di Venezia)

One of the world's most famous festivals, held in February for two weeks before Lent. Venice fills with elaborately costumed revellers, masked balls, gondola parades, and street performances. The tradition dates to the 11th century. Highlights include the Flight of the Angel (Volo dell'Angelo) and the Grand Canal parade.
