Francesinha

Porto's legendary sandwich — layers of cured meats and sausage between thick bread, blanketed in melted cheese and drenched in a rich, spicy tomato-beer sauce, often served with french fries. Invented in the 1950s as a Portuguese twist on the French croque-monsieur. The sauce recipe varies by restaurant and is fiercely guarded. A true Porto institution.
