Alcobaça Monastery

A UNESCO World Heritage Cistercian monastery founded in 1153 — the first great Gothic building in Portugal. The church houses the exquisite tomb effigies of King Pedro I and his murdered lover Inês de Castro, one of history's great tragic love stories carved in stone.
