Batalha Monastery

A UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic architecture, built to celebrate the 1385 Battle of Aljubarrota. The Founder's Chapel contains the tombs of King João I and his English queen Philippa of Lancaster. The unfinished chapels (Capelas Imperfeitas) are among the most haunting ruins in Europe.
