Cape Town Minstrel Carnival (Kaapse Klopse)

A huge, colorful street carnival held every January 2nd (Tweede Nuwe Jaar), rooted in the traditions of Cape Town's Cape Malay and Coloured communities. Troupes of minstrels in bright satin costumes parade through the city center singing and dancing to banjo music — a genuinely unique South African tradition dating back over a century.
