Andorra

Andorra is not part of the EU or Schengen Area, but it has open borders with France and Spain. To enter, you typically need a valid Schengen visa (or be a citizen of an EU/Schengen country). US, UK, and most Western passport holders can visit without a visa for short stays. Note that entering and exiting requires crossing through France or Spain.

Andorra is one of the safest countries in Europe with an extremely low crime rate. There is virtually no violent crime against tourists. The main things to be aware of are customs limits when crossing the border — exceeding duty-free allowances (especially alcohol and tobacco) can result in confiscation and fines.

Catalan is the official language of Andorra. However, Spanish and French are widely spoken throughout the country due to its borders and tourism. English is spoken in most hotels, ski resorts, and tourist areas, so visitors rarely encounter language barriers.

The best time to visit Andorra is Dec–Mar (ski) & Jun–Sep (hiking). During these months you'll find the most pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and the best overall experience.

Most visitors spend 3–5 days in Andorra, which gives enough time to cover the main highlights. Shorter trips are possible if you focus on one or two regions.

The official language is Catalan. In popular tourist areas English is generally understood, but locals always appreciate a few words in the local language.
