Antigua’s biggest and most joyful celebration — a full month of events culminating in the first Tuesday of August with J’Ouvert (a pre-dawn street party with paint and powder) and the Grand Parade, where elaborately costumed masquerade bands dance through St. John’s streets to the thundering rhythms of soca and calypso. Steel pan competitions, calypso tents, beauty pageants, and outdoor concerts fill the weeks beforehand. One of the Eastern Caribbean’s most vibrant and authentic carnivals.
