Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda is generally safe for tourists. Violent crime against visitors is uncommon, but petty theft (bag snatching, theft from rental cars) occurs in some areas of St. John's and around beach areas. Exercise standard precautions: don't leave valuables on the beach or in visible view in vehicles, avoid isolated areas at night, and stay aware in the St. John's market area. English Harbour and resort zones are well-monitored.

Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, EU, Australia, and New Zealand do not need a visa for stays up to 180 days. A valid passport and proof of onward travel are required. Entry is via V.C. Bird International Airport (Antigua) or by ferry. Always check current entry requirements with the Antigua and Barbuda tourism authority or your country's embassy before travel.

December to April is peak season — dry, sunny weather with temperatures around 26–30°C and minimal rain. This is also when Antigua Sailing Week (late April) and the Classic Yacht Regatta (April) take place. May to November is the hurricane season — lower prices, fewer crowds, and lush green landscapes, but the risk of tropical storms (the worst months are August–October). The Antigua Carnival in late July–early August is a spectacular cultural reason to visit in the wet season.

Antigua Sailing Week is one of the world's top offshore regattas, held annually in late April–early May in Falmouth and English Harbour. Over 100 yachts from 30+ countries race around the island across five days of racing. Equally important are the legendary shore parties, live music nights at Shirley Heights, and the festive atmosphere around English Harbour. Even non-sailors flock to watch from the hillside viewpoints — it's one of the Caribbean's unmissable events.

Most visitors spend 7–12 days in Antigua and Barbuda, which gives enough time to cover the main highlights. Shorter trips are possible if you focus on one or two regions.

Antigua and Barbuda uses the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$). Cards are widely accepted in cities, but carry some cash for markets, smaller restaurants, and rural areas.

The official language is English. In popular tourist areas English is generally understood, but locals always appreciate a few words in the local language.
