Argentina's greatest snack and comfort food — pastry cases folded and crimped in distinctive regional patterns, filled with spiced minced beef (carne), chicken, ham and cheese, or spinach and ricotta, then baked or fried. Each province has its own style: Salta's empanadas are small and juicy with boiled egg and potato; Tucumán's are tiny and deep-fried; Buenos Aires versions are larger and baked. Ordering a dozen empanadas and a bottle of Malbec is one of Argentina's perfect meals.
