Pastechi (Aruban Fried Pastry)

Aruba’s favourite breakfast and snack food — a deep-fried half-moon pastry with a golden, flaky shell filled with soft white cheese (the classic), spiced ground meat, tuna salad, or ham. Sold from bakeries, roadside stands, and snack trucks all over the island from early morning, pastechi are Aruba’s answer to the empanada and are eaten by locals of all ages at any hour. Best eaten hot, straight from the fryer, with a cold Balashi beer or a cup of coffee.
