Pchum Ben (Ancestors' Day)

About

One of Cambodia's most sacred and deeply observed religious festivals — a 15-day Buddhist observance in September or October during which Cambodians make offerings of sticky rice and banana-leaf parcels (num ansorm) at pagodas to feed the spirits of deceased ancestors who are believed to wander the earth during this period. The final day, Pchum Ben itself, sees entire families dressed in white making dawn offerings at temples nationwide. It is a deeply emotional and spiritually significant time that offers a rare window into the heart of Cambodian Buddhist practice.
