Jordan is widely regarded as one of the safest and most stable countries to visit in the Middle East, with a strong tourism police presence at major sites like Petra and Wadi Rum. As with any destination, check current government travel advisories for border regions before you go.

US citizens need a visa, but it's easy to obtain — either on arrival or, more commonly, bundled into the Jordan Pass, which is purchased online before your trip and also covers major site entry fees.

Tap water in Amman and other cities is treated and technically safe, but it's heavily chlorinated and many locals drink bottled or filtered water. Bottled water is cheap and widely available, and is the safer choice for visitors.

A 10% tip is appreciated at restaurants if a service charge isn't already included. Tour guides and drivers are typically tipped $5–10/day. Small tips for porters and housekeeping are also customary.

The best time to visit Jordan is March–May & Sept–Nov. During these months you'll find the most pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and the best overall experience.

Most visitors spend 6–9 days in Jordan, which gives enough time to cover the main highlights. Shorter trips are possible if you focus on one or two regions.

Jordan uses the Jordanian Dinar (JD). Cards are widely accepted in cities, but carry some cash for markets, smaller restaurants, and rural areas.

The official language is Arabic (English widely spoken in tourist areas). In popular tourist areas English is generally understood, but locals always appreciate a few words in the local language.
